Open-source, pay-as-you-go alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs covering keyword research, rank tracking, backlinks, site audits, and AI visibility, with an MCP server so agents can work with your SEO data.
No subscription. You bring your own DataForSEO API key and pay only for the requests you make. The hosted version at openseo.so is free to try and costs $10/month if you subscribe to support the project. It makes money by adding 28% on top of each DataForSEO request, so self-hosting is slightly cheaper.
You can self-host it two ways: Docker for personal use on your own machine, or Cloudflare (the recommended option, and it works on the free plan) when you want it online for several devices or a team. The MCP server and the prebuilt Agent Skills (/seo-audit, /keyword-research, /competitor-analysis) let Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT, OpenClaw, or Hermes run SEO workflows directly. You can also fork the TypeScript codebase and build your own version.
Repo: every-app/open-seo (MIT). It pairs well with SEO Lens for page-level audits.
