Perplexity's open-source sandbox platform, the one behind every task in Perplexity Computer. It runs agent and user code in isolated Firecracker microVMs behind an HTTP API.
SPACE stands for Sandboxed Platform for Agentic Code Execution. A template supplies the starting environment, and each sandbox is an instance of it with its own VM and writable filesystem. Your app creates sandboxes, runs commands in them and streams the output over HTTP and server-sent events, so you don't embed any Rust. Lifecycle changes are asynchronous: the API returns an operation id you poll.
A sandbox can be paused, with memory kept resident, or suspended to a snapshot of memory, runtime state and root filesystem that releases its resources until you wake it. By default an idle sandbox suspends after six hours. Warm pools keep booted VMs ready so a create skips the cold boot. An E2B compatibility wrapper lets existing E2B Python clients use SPACE as the backend.
The setup guide deploys it on a local Kind cluster with Kubernetes, and the architecture guide covers running without it. Apache-2.0. Docs: Guide · API reference.
